Today’s students live in a media-rich world. Every day they receive thousands of messages from a variety of sources and for a variety of purposes. Literacy in the 21st century includes the traditional skills of reading, writing and oral language, but also the ability to identify, analyse, understand, evaluate and produce a wide variety of media forms. Media literacy skills are taught by all teachers. From KG through grade eight, students are analysing and creating media projects to learn to better communicate with the world around them. Technology is becoming more of a tool in the classroom that provides the opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge in new and exciting ways. For many, technology is the great equalizer.
